Upgrading and Integrating Two Interactive Recruitment Websites

Hire Counsel and Mestel & Company are nationally-acknowledged leaders in today’s new legal economy, providing staffing, high-level attorney placement and merger & acquisition services to law firms, corporations and government agencies.

HA Roth Consulting (HARC) was asked to upgrade, edit, design and implement the two sister company websites and integrate them into an improved, interactive recruitment tool.

About Hire Counsel and Mestel & Company

Hire Counsel is a leading staffing and recruitment services provider to law firms. Whether supplying temporary lawyers and staff resources for large-scale caseloads and document reviews, helping to bolster client capabilities or fill a gap when key professionals are unavailable, they are known for the impeccable quality and professionalism of their service.

Mestel & Company is the leader in privately held legal search and recruitment consulting, specializing in career advancement for associates, of counsel, partners and in-house counsel as well as for moving groups and orchestrating complex law firm mergers.

After assessing the sister company websites, it was apparent neither site was sufficiently effective at communicating their strong position in the market. Moreover, the sites were visually inconsistent from one another and not coded responsively for their growing audience of mobile users.

HARC proceeded to develop an improved website information architecture for enhanced information retrieval and communications while making consistent the relationship between both companies through a unified, yet distinctive visual design approach – one that reflects their industry leadership and the sophistication of their process, services and organizational culture.

HARC proceeded to develop an improved website information architecture for enhanced information retrieval and communications while making consistent the relationship between both companies through a unified, yet distinctive visual design approach – one that reflects their industry leadership and the sophistication of their process, services and organizational culture.

Phase 1: Site Definition & Planning

After conducting a series of internal discussions to gain a better understanding of project scope and vision, we proposed executing a master website concept which included defining an initial site layout, diagraming the user experience and outlining interactivity and overall visual style, such as typography, color, imagery and graphic elements.

Phase II: Information Architecture, User Experience (UX) & Design

After establishing a core understanding of the website concept and vision, HARC began wireframing and sketching several of the confirmed page types, such as the homepage concept, service page visualizations and case study section. This phase also included demonstrating recommended interactivity and animation of various elements, as well as charting out a recommended sitemap hierarchy to show user click funnels from page-to-page and how those same users might engage with the main navigation and buttons within each of the pages to get to specific goals.

From here, the HARC team proposed a website layout, information architecture and planned user experience, along with suggested zones for placing various content types and other color and typographical recommendations. Further work was done on writing and editing general content and case studies for maximum impact and relevance to their targeted audiences.

Phase III: Programming

After review and design confirmation, HARC moved quickly to resourcing, content aggregation, and programming – pixel by pixel, we polished wireframe concepts and translated design into live, interactive code.

The coded website framework was built for WordPress CMS (uses PHP), which required us to work with the Hire Counsel and Mestel IT teams to configure webservers, databases, DNS rules and hosting, along with the administration of WordPress users and backup and security protocols.

The end result of this pre-launch programming stage was a fully functioning, highly interactive website that reflected the ambitious goals of the respective organizations.

Phase IV: Launch & Post-launch

After rigorous offline testing, initial SEO work and content management, the old sites were backed up and the new sites taken online at:

www.mestel.com and www.hirecounsel.com

Upon launching, analytics code was placed on each of the pages to track performance. Stylesheets and static HTML pages were given to a 3rd-party application company, who we worked in close partnership with to fold their recruiting tool into our newly crafted design.
